When Firefox is opened with Run As Administrator links in emails will not open. Is this normal? Using W7 Firefox 23.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

What email service are you using?

You shouldnt be running in admin mode anyways, it lets all malicious code run w/o a prompt and puts you at a high risk for malware.

Firefox is the default browser. Running in the Safe Mode with add-ons disable has no effect. OUTLOOK 2010 is the email client under Windows 7.

I was only running occasionally in the Administrator mode as a workaround for a problem accessing my address book on the FedEx website. Then noticed while doing so email links would not open, and that seemed odd. FedEx appears to have now fixed the problem.

Another maybe related problem is when using Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) under Vista, with Firefox running normally or with add-ons disabled, it will not open links in emails from eBay. Other email links seem to open ok. Any thoughts?
