pix.impdesk.com is interfering with website using Firefox, but not with Internet Explorer
Hi, I am using Firefox 24. When visiting Findmypast.com I have a problem navigating on the site. This occurs when going BACK to previous pages viewed--and sometimes when selecting new pages / Sections. The problem is something called pix.impdesk.com which I'm told is something to do with Flash Advertising. Since Findmypast (FMP) started using the advertising I now get delays of 20 seconds or more --due to "connecting to pix.impdesk.com"---before the page I want to view comes up /loads.
I contacted FMP about it, but all they said was "after careful consideration, they had decided the financial gain from the Advertising, outweighed any problems caused by it's use"!!
The problem does NOT occur when using IE8. Is there a cure for this when using Firefox---my preferred Browser!

You may try the various flash blocking and ad-blocking extensions that are available, or maybe just disable the FlashPlayer extension.
- search: for example see

edit and https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=flash+block&cat=1%2C0&appver=25.0
The problem is that sites obtain income from advertising as you are aware, and they will possibly design the site so that it is difficult to block the advertising without also blocking the site functionality.
You could of course use IE for that site and Firefox for day-to-day browsing, or just accept the fact that such sites as you are using are (pick) |free | highly subsidised | designed for profit making | and could cease to exist if all the advertising is blocked and their income stream dries up.

John---thanks for that, but, it doesn't change matters. I'm not sure that the Ads are the problem---it's the connecting to pix.impdesk.com, that is taking the time. Whether that time is actually a loading time for Ads--or whatever--I don't know---I'm no Computer freak---Silver surfer--71, The site was no problem---page loading took only milisecs-- until they started using this last week. Since then, the page loading time has increased to 20 secs plus. It is not happening when opening FMP--but changing the pages within the site--ie if I want to refine a search, it goes through the connecting to pix thing again--to my mind that should not be happening within the site after login! And why should I add stuff --Addons--onto my Computer to counteract this anyway? Swapping from one Browser to another doesn't appeal either.
When you mentioned this to FMP did you stress that it had a repeated 20 second delay. Maybe there is a problem with the site.
It is a site that normally requires a login and payment. That may deter someone from testing it unless they happen to use the site ordinarily already and have an existing subscription.
I have a 1 year current paid Subscription--access to all Records at FMP--The problem has nothing to do with type of customer / Site visitor
They say they have tested it and they have no problems such as this 20 sec connection time lag. What they are saying is, the problem is my side---but I didn't have it before the introduction of this Advertising. As I said--it doesn't happen using IE8--I don't see that message "connecting to pix.impdesk.com-which I find strange!
