Upgraded to FireFox 25 about 11/5/13 and immediately could not get certain information from a well trusted website I took for granted with FireFox 24. I use that feature A LOT (A LOT!) EVERY DAY. But now I CAN'T. The website used to display certain information automatically but seems to no longer do that. Resetting FireFox to factory default or whatever you call it does not fix the problem. How do I go back to FireFox 24 to see if that fixes the problem? The forum thing does not have the answer as far as I can tell. Your website doesn't even have it.

Hi WarrenSmalley, to replace your current bookmarks+history database with the old one, you'll need to open both folders simultaneously, then exit Firefox, then copy over the older file (I suggest copying rather than moving so you can retain an uncorrupted copy).

To open your current profile folder, either:

  • use Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter > "Show Folder" button

You already know the location of your old profile folder (Desktop \ Old Firefox Data).

After exiting Firefox, allow a few moments for files to be updated before making the change.

Go to http://mokanrealtor.com/template40/nextpage.asp?mnu=219395

Enter in the MLS ID box 1845263,1841003 Those are different houses recently for sale (2213 Belmont Boulevard and 5100 Clark Drive Roeland Park)

Over on the right side, right above the listing broker company (Courtesy of: Reece & Nichols East or whatever), it used to show whether the listing is Active, Show for Backup or Sold etc. It did show that with FireFox 24 but no longer does with FireFox 25.

Going back to FireFox 24 will tell us whether it really is FireFox 25 or the website no longer sends the data (Active, Show for Backup or Sold).

the site doesn't seem to display the information you've referred to when i use firefox 24, firefox 25 or google chrome... so you might want to contact the site's operators to get this issue solved.

By the way, after doing the reset, how do I get all my bookmarks back? I had a LOT that are no longer there.

more options

Yes, I tried Internet Explorer with the same result but 3 days ago there was no problem.

a reset shouldn't have affected you bookmarks, maybe just your bookmarks toolbar got hidden per default: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks

in any case if some bookmarks got really lost, there should be a folder on your desktop labelled "old firefox data" which will contain your profile before the reset. in there there should be a subfolder named "bookmarkbackups" - you can go to firefox > bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import & backup > restore... and point it to one of those back-up files.

regarding the website issue - if it affects all other browsers as well, this is not related to the firefox update & downgrading is not the right avenue to pursue. please get it reported to the website in question.

Doing Bookmarks / Show all bookmarks / Import & Backup / Restore from Wed Nov 6 says there are 234 items but when I select that it says "Unable to process the backup file." That is copy paste of what it says. How do I get my bookmarks back?

So what do I do with this "Old Firefox Data" / "zpypsrlj.default" folder to get my bookmarks back?

try to replace the places.sqlite file in your current profile folder with the one from "old firefox data"

Doing the Bookmarks / Show all bookmarks / Import & Backup / Restore and selecting any of the files in the "Old Firefox Data" / "zpypsrlj.default boomark backups" folder gives me the same "Unable to process the backup file."

How do I get my bookmarks back?

So how do I "try to replace the places.sqlite file in your current profile folder with the one from "old firefox data" "

Telling me to do something I don't know how to do is not helping.

It seems something on the server is not working correctly. The blank area contains a hidden "listinfo" element. You can extract the property status from it using a bit of script, but this shouldn't be necessary and probably needs to be reported to the site.

To see what I mean about the script, when you are viewing your search results, open the Web Console using Ctrl+Shift+k, then paste the following long line of script next to the caret (>) and press Enter to run it:

var d = document.getElementById("IFrameMain").contentDocument; var info = d.getElementsByClassName("flist"); for (var i=0; i<info.length; i++) info[i].parentNode.appendChild(document.createTextNode("status=" + info[i].firstChild.getAttribute("status")));

The only "places.sqlite" file anywhere on my disk is the one in the "old firefox data" folder . There is no other file I can replace with that one.

This also might be helpful in the future so you can more fully explore for files in your profile folder: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

I don't know anything about doing :

var d = document.getElementById("IFrameMain").contentDocument; var info = d.getElementsByClassName("flist"); for (var i=0; i<info.length; i++) info[i].parentNode.appendChild(document.createTextNode("status=" + info[i].firstChild.getAttribute("status"))); </p>

anywhere. You have not given me enough information about what to do with that stuff as I am no longer a tech savy programmer not a Web Console savy person anymore..

Hi WarrenSmalley, about the script I posted:

  • Copy the script from my post
  • Run your search on that site so you end up viewing the results page with the blank areas
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the web console
  • Paste next to the caret (">") which appears at the bottom of the web console
  • Press Enter

Expected result: "status=A" appears for Active listings. Not sure what the other statuses mean, but you will see the data that is available in the page.

Another possibility is to make a backup copy of all JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder in the current Firefox profile folder.
Copy the most recent JSON backup(s) (bookmarks-####-##-##.json) from the bookmarkbackups folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the bookmarkbackups folder of the current profile folder and delete the places.sqlite file(s) in the main profile folder.
This should make Firefox rebuild the bookmarks from that JSON backup.
Essential is to remove the currently present places.sqlite file that is corrupted to force Firefox to create a new fresh file.

Thanks folks for trying. It can be hard to help someone who is not savy.

jscher2000: I am going to try to replace the places.sqlite file per your instructions but that means shutting down this chat so i hope it works and I can report it so.

Guys, you all owe jscher2000 something for his simple solution - replace the places.sqlite file in the current profile folder from the OldFireFox Data / zpypsrlj.default folder. I just had to find both files per his instructions, halt FireFox, copy it (fortunately without write permission fault!) and restart FireFox.

All bookmarks are now restored as they were this morning.

The original problem remains mine unfortunately as it really is a bear to lose the data from that website.
