Hi,

After opening a website in Mozilla Firefox it shows "Activate Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U. This plugin has security vulnerabilities" and after clicking "allow and remember in red plugin icon in the address bar" the website closes automatically. Again after opening the same website the same problem exists - Not able to activate java.

After opening the same website in Google Chrome "Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U21 has crashed." - this message appears.

Please and Kindly help me solving this problem so that Im able to open the website.

Thanks & Regards, Akansha.

Make sure your Java plugin is up-to-date by visiting http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/

See Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites for info on updating and testing Java.

What's the website, by the way?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Firstly you asked to visit "http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/" - it asks to update double Twist Web Plugin 3 wherein in my plugin there is no such update available.

Here is the tricky part - In "http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/" it ask me to update Java Development toolkit and Java(TM) Platform and when I click Testing Java - it shows it is updated.

Secondly you asked to visit "Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites" - in this it has list of table of contents.

so I clicked Installing or updating Java and followed the instructions.

then I clicked testing java.

then I clicked Enabling Java.

then I clicked uninstall JavaFX if installed

the website which I desperatly need to open is https://www.fednetbank.com.

Still after doing all the above steps the above mentioned website does not open.

Please let me know step by step process to open this website.

Also I tried to upload attachment of my add on screen shot but it did not, so please can you let me know your email address wherein I can mail you.

Thanks & Regards, Akansha.

You appear to have a very old version of Java installed - Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.21.2 for Mozilla browsers . It is shown in the Plugins submitted with your original question (click Question Details > More System Details to the right of your original question). That is Java 7u21, the current version is Java 7u45.

There are several methods to update Java. I recommend that you update by either 1 or 2 below:

  1. download, SAVE to your hard drive, close all browsers, run the updater, uncheck items that you do not want installed (if offered), then open Firefox and test.
  2. You can also update using Windows Control Panel > Update

Your are also 2 full revisions behind on Shockwave Flash 11 (aka, Flash or Flashplayer). You System Details with you question indicate that you are using Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700 ### which contains security issues; current version is Shockwave Flash 11.9.900.152.

You are using Firefox 25.0; Firefox 25.0.1 was released November 15, 2013. Follow the instructions to update below and read the release notes to see what changed.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. As you asked me I followed your steps: 1. Download link - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html - after clicking JRE Version, I accepted License Agreement. I downloaded

Windows x64	29.27 MB jre-7u45-windows-x64.exe

Then I visited Test Java - https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp - Verify Java Version – “We are unable to verify if Java is currently installed and enabled in your browser.”

2. I downloaded the latest version of Flash Player.

3. I visited Update Firefox - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version - and followed instructions and it says Firefox 25.0.1 - up to date.

I guess because of Ist point im unable to open the website.

Please help me on this.

Thanks & Regards, Akansha.

You installed the wrong version of Java (x64). You need the 32-bit version for 32-bit browsers like Firefox. You can get the off-line installer for 32-bit Java from this link:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

'akanshamittal001:

You must use the 32-bit version with Firefox and any other 32-bit broswer and the 64-bit version with 64-bit browsers. It is NOT the -bit version of the OS that determines which to use.

On the link http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html after clicking JRE Download and accepting the license agreement, your choices for the full installer are:

  • 32-bit browser - jre-7u45-windows-i586.exe
  • 64-bit browser - jre-7u45-windows-x64.exe

If you have both 32-bit and 64-bit browsers on your system, you can install both - see https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml

Sorry that I was not more specific in my prior reply.

Hi,

Thanks for the support.

I visited http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html after clicking JRE Download and accepting the license agreement, I downloaded: • 32-bit browser - jre-7u45-windows-i586.exe

After downloading, I opened the website, but it says “Running this application may be security risk. Risk – This application will run with unrestricted access which may put my computer and personal information at risk”'

Before me facing this problem, the website never ever posted this kind of message.

Now Im worried that should I open the website or not.

Please help me on this.

Thanks & Regards, Akansha Mittal.

That sounds like a message that may have been issued by your antivirus application or by your Windows OS.

If you have any concerns, load it into https://www.virustotal.com/ where it will be scanned by approximate 40 highly respected scan engines. Let us know the results from virustotal.

Hi,

I visited https://www.virustotal.com/ and it asks to upload files and also you asked to load files. I did not get as to what to upload.

Thanks, Akansha.

On the main page of virustotal, click the "Choose file" button, navigate on your system harddrive to where you saved the file "jre-7u45-windows-i586.exe", click on the file to be analyzed and click the "Open" button, verify that the correct file to scan is now to the left of the "Choose file" button, click the "Scan it" button, wait while it uploads the file, click the "Reanalyze" button, wait for the analysis/scan to complete, read the entire result from top to bottom.

Hi,

Thanks for being such a gentleman in helping me out.

I scanned the file and it says the following:

File name: jre-7u45-windows-i586.exe Detection ratio: 0 / 47.

It says is ok to use this file.

Now are you sure I can use this file because when I open the website it always shows that it is harmful to use the file.

Thanks. Akansha.

What do you mean by "...when I open the website..."

Do you get a message when opening a website or when opening the Java installer 7u45 or both?

Did you run the installer after downloading it?

What names and version numbers for Java items show in your Add-ons > Plugins and in Add-ons > Extensions?

If a website is giving you the message, please give the website address.

All Java plugins are blocked by default for security reasons and you can choose to enable the Java plugin on trused websites.

You will also have to confirm a Java security dialog.

Note that you can get a possibly colored Lego icon on the left end of the location bar that indicates that Firefox is blocking a plugin.

Hi,

After I opened the website - The warning message always appear.

Yes, I did run the installer after downloading it.

After clicking on Add-ons > Plugins - I have a list of plugins. For java Development toll kit 7.0.450.18 10.45.2.18 - it is known to be vulnerable. Use it with caution - is it because of this that after opening the website I get the warning message.

Thanks.

As I asked before, please post the website address.

There are 2 add-on items created for Java when it is installed:

  • Java Platform SE (version) - The actual working component that allows users to view Java applets on pages and in games.
  • Java Deployment Toolkit (version) - A component that is needed by few users (it does several things) , but, if a web page checks for a Java version to use on that website, it is required. Activate JDT at your own risk.

I do NOT have Java installed on my system for security reasons. I have never encountered a situation in which it was needed. Java is a very unsecure add-on. I do not play games online.

All versions of Java Deployment Toolkit are vulnerable.

Java Platform SE 7u45 is the only non-blocked version of the Platform in Firefox. You need this to see Java applets and Java based games online.
