Firefox won't update from version 17.01 - help !
Hello,
I just realized that on one of my desk top computers, Firefox hasn't updated from 17.01. ( I have been successfully able to update my laptop and an older desktop to version 26.0).
FF indicates that I am on the Release Channel, version 17.01.
After going to "about Firefox" the system keeps searching, but never finds an update.
Can anyone help ?

Your user agent that is corrupted
Download Manually and install it
Ok, do I need to uninstall the prior version, or is it ok to install over my current version ?
Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.
WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!
Will I loose my bookmarks, etc, when downloading the latest firefox version ???
Best way, download latest ff and upgrade on firefox 17, so you won't loose any bookmarks
Did you tried firefox sync?
Firefox Sync - Take your bookmarks, tabs and personal information with you
So, I should go ahead and perform the Clean Reinstall ? And I will still keep my bookmarks....is that right ?
Yeah, I have FF Synch on two other computers... under the old name of "X Marks."
I am going to try this, wish me luck.
I did a Clean Reinstall and was able to retain my bookmarks... than you.
Do I need to do anything to get rid of any remnants of FF version 17.01, now that i did a Clean Reinstall ?
I don't see anything listed for FF Version 17.01 in "add or delete programs," so I think it is probably ok. !
When you have uninstalled Firefox 17 then the Firefox files in the Firefox program folder and also registry keys for that version should have been removed.
It is usually best to check that the Firefox program folder has been removed and that there weren't any files left in it.
A full install of the current release should be sufficient to get that version installed properly.
If you haven't encountered problems with installing and running the current Firefox release then you shouldn't worry.

When I did a clean install of the updated Firefox version 26.0, I didn't go into add/remove programs to uninstall the Firefox 17.01 version.
However, I did check add/remove programs, I all I see is the version 26.0 program.... so it appears the old version was removed.
thanks for the help !
Jason.
