Hi,

using the web.de-webmail-client it is not possible to upload-files to attach them to an email. The webdeveloper-inspector of firefox shows the following error: - NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED: Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIDOMBlob.size]

Best Regards, xforfun

Hi,

Thank you for contacting support. I understand that there are some issues with uploading files to a website.

There are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

  • Check the file permission properties to the files that this error and test if a different directory gives the same error
  • see if the page has restricted access in the "about:permissions" page {reference from cor-el that guy is awesome}

Please post back letting us know how this goes.

Did you check for issues with the WEB.DE MailCheck 2.7.1.2 extension?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Hi,

thanks for your replies. The file-permissions are ok. It happens with every file. And the problem appeared overnight.

I did not check the web.de MailCheck-issues cause the web.de-extension isn´t installed and seems not to be required to upload-files. I have tested this on a different computer in a firefox without the extension and it works fine.

As far as I can tell the entries on the about:permissions-page are looking fine.

I have started the browser in safe-mode but unfortunately this doesn't change anything :( File-upload doesn't work. I assume extensions and hardware-acceleration aren't responsible...?!

I have also reinstalled firefox but the problem still exists. I have installed a different browser to check whether this is a general problem. But e.g. Opera works fine. But I would like to continue using firefox... ;)

Any other ideas?

Best Regards, xforfun

Hi xforfun,

The first troubleshooting step that comes to mind is to reinstall the extension in a new profile and add the account to the extension. However if it works without the extension, maybe this can be reported to the extension developer.

You can create a new profile by:

Older versions of the extensions: [I do not recommend]https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../versions/

Hi guigs2,

the extension is not required for this functionality. Generally it should work without it.

Concerning the profile: Shouldn´t be the profile beeing reinstalled when reinstalling firefox?

Best Regards, Simon

Hi xforfun, When you uninstall the program, the profile will be removed as well. If you would like to save the profile, you can reset firefox and "Old Firefox.." will be a folder exported to the desktop.

I looked at the German instructions for this and it looks like there is an issue with bad requests for older versions of firefox. Does this also not work with version 27, or Firefox Beta?

Do you have any antivirus or firewall enabled that might be blocking the access to the file that checks the mail? You can check the directory of the add on and see if the file permissions are on for the system.

The profile (actually all profiles) will only be removed if you tick the box to remove personal data in the uninstaller dialog. Otherwise your profile is preserved and automatically found when you (re)install Firefox.

A couple of thoughts/theories:

1) Is the file open or anything else accessing it when you try to? For example, I could see this being caused by an antivirus locking the file for scanning. Do you have another user account on the computer that could be open and have files open?

2) Have you tried rebooting the entire computer? My gut feeling is your OS and Firefox are disagreeing on some attribute of the file (size, perhaps?). If it weren't every file, I'd say that it could be disk corruption.

3) Does this happen when you upload files to imgur or anywhere else? This could help us narrow the problem down.
