firefox was working fine with gmail, hotmail etc. Now all of a sudden when trying to attach a file, upload window pops up but there is nothing in it. it will not show any files. updated firefox to latest version-no avail. did firefox safemode-no use. Explorer on same CPU works fine with all emails. operating system Vista home basic.

Firefox is not a mail program but you can set it to launch your default mail client or a webmail service for mailto actions.

See the article Change the program used to open email links.

Open the Firefox Options window, Applications tab. What is the mail client or webmail service that is set for mailto actions in Firefox? It could be a problem with the mail program or service you are using.

Changed the default mailto from Windows to gmail. No difference. Email does work with firefox i just can't attach anything, because no files come up in the Upload window. If I close firefox and use explorer all emails work fine. Like I said Firefox was working fine up until a few days ago. I am not saying something is wrong with firefox, something must have happened to my laptop which affected firefoxe's handling of web based email and nothing else on this CPU. Funny, the upload window does not work here either. I'll sign out, sign in with explorer and add a screenshot.

This is the screen shot of the upload window being empty

Your screenshot shows a File Upload window (which belongs to Windows, not Firefox) with "Desktop" at the top but the folder content pane is empty. The window doesn't show any folder selected in the left pane.

I don't know why that is but try selecting the Desktop or another folder in the File Upload window, where you have a file you want to attach.

I tested Gmail webmail in Firefox 29 using Windows 7 and I was able to attach a file.
