On 4/28 just as I was on the Internet doing some work, my Firefox suddenly shut down, I had to restart the computer. It had updated to a new version. THE NEW VERSION STINKS!! Every time I start Firefox, it has changed my home page to search.ask.com! It has also changed my search engine to ask.com. Every time I have to struggle to change my home page back to Google (it rarely changes easily). I also have to change my search engine. And when I open a new tab, that tab shows search.ask.com, not a blank or Google. I WANT MY OTHER VERSION BACK! The new version is number 29.

Well if you are a Windows user, you can download the 28.0 version here ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/28.0/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2028.0.exe

Just remember to disable automatic updates in the options menu, and pray, that we will get the old look and functionality back in version 30.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
