Please consider creating a backup of all files touched while applying the following steps.

In "%appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" is a folder called <something>.default (this is your firefox profile folder)

1. Close Firefox

2. Within that folder delete the following files:

  • sessionCheckpoints.json
  • sessionstore.js + variations like sessionstore-1.js, sessionstore.bak, etc.

3. Start Firefox again

Session restore should now be working again although your last session will still be lost. In case you still have issues, try disabling the session restore feature before applying above steps and reenabling it afterwards.

Hello,

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Thank you.

Sounds that Firefox isn't creating a sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.

Can you confirm that?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can check browser.sessionstore.* prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the about:config page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

Not only did the last update disable Session Manager extension, it also broke the traditional session manager

I have a valid sessionstore.js file that is not recognized despite these settings;

browser.sessionstore.enabled;true

as I said before I did check about:config setting and everything is okay (although I checked agian after saw your post)

I have sessionstore.js but last change (modify) was before update and I think what you say is somehow true, Firefox doesn't create or rewrite sessionstore.js

I don't know what this file exacly do (sessionCheckpoints.json) but it seems this file still change and rewrite unlike sessionstore.js

I've this one too, is it related or it's regular rutine browser.sessionstore.upgradeBackup.latestBuildID;20140421221237

So......no solution available?

Another thing; Normally I'm able to preview a session BEFORE restoring it

I really miss that feature.

Firefox crashed twice then somehow solved the issue itself. Restore Session page is also back #wtf

I have this problem also. Started with V29.

None of these solutions work.

Note pinned tabs come back, but not normal ones.

This is clearly a bug, please fix it.

i had a similar problem, and fixed it by resetting v29, undeleting my v28 session store file, and putting it in the new folder. take a peek

manual recovery steps after upgrade 28 to 29 broke session restore maybe due to profile folder location change in XP

hope that helps :^)

WORKAROUND: I installed the session manager plugin mentioned above. I have never used this before, and I dont see the need if firefox was working as it should. However, installing this plugin corrected this problem. It may help you do the same.

Session manager: http://sessionmanager.mozdev.org/options.html#startup

None of these are helping me. Firefox updated automatically to v29 and since then I cannot get it to open to restored tabs from the previous session. I am also unable to restore session from history.
