I run mac os x mavericks I updated recently to Firefox 29.0 for the last 2 days or so I can't search the net with google anymore If I type a frase or word (Flickr, VW beetle) into the searchbar and have google as search engin selected I get the error message "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com." If I type into the address bar www.google.com same thing BUT if I type in www.google.co.za or .de or. uk it is fine. Also all my old bookmarks are working fine. However if I try to search with 'bing or yahoo FF askes to redirect and brings me to a malware flashplayer pro site with a windows uplication. I'm not able to ignore it! Please help as i do not want to use google crome or safary as my default browser Thanks in advance

It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
  3. Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
  4. Click the remove button.
  5. Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.

After Firefox restarts, install the Search Reset Tool. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

For further information, please read Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page.

Did this fix the problem? Please let us know!

Hi after deleting Mozila and all the add on,and bits and pieces i reinstalled mozila and started from scratch!! After spending most of the day getting some of the bookmarks and stuff back I'm now back at square one. I tried the for mentioned solution but firstly I have only one add on and thats DIVX and it is disabled and second... But is there the possibility that it has something to do with private browsing?? After going thru the posts somebody said somthing about privat browsing and to come and think of it, since than the search bar is again not working!!
