Recently I wrote an email with a table, it was separated in 2 rows and 2 columns, in each cell i inserted an image with a hyperlink to access them in full resolution. One of them was taken sideways so it was open on paint, turn 90 degrees, then saved, before it was inserted on the email.

At the moment of draft saving and sending, all four pictures were ok in proportions and heads up. Here is the bug, after sent, i opened it on sent items, and one of them was of the same dimension but it was clipped and distorted.

Almost like someone took the image, turn it and cropped it just at the moment of sending the message. This is the second time i see this behavior on image handling.

What is the file format you are using to send? I am guessing JPG, try using PNG and see if you still see the issue. You can email me an matt_au at gmx.com if you want to send test emails.

The JPG format contains extended data about orientation (EXIF) which Thunderbird does consistently honor. Bug 1340927 applies here I think.

Essentially, TB doesn't read all the data embedded in an image when you insert or attach it. This is especially a problem with photos from cell phones. Best policy is to open the image in a viewer like FastStone, rotate it as needed, save it, then add it to a message.

Well is not just a one time issue, its the second time it rotates after been sent. I'm not sure if the message at the end part got it like i sent it or is as it's shown on sent items. Ether way is at least strange how or why it flips upon sending

That may be it... I'll make some tests with png and see if it happens again
