It would be very sneaky for an add-on to block Firefox's reset feature...

Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that stop the pain of the actual problem leading you to want to use reset, or is it still present?

Assuming this infection entered from outside, you also could try the following:

(1) Check the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, for a possible uninstaller. Click the "Installed on" column heading to group by date, so it's easier to identify unwanted bundle items.

(2) Use some of the cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Any luck?

Note that you only see the reset button on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page if you use the profile that is marked as Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.

If you do not have the "Reset" button then either use the Profile Manager to create a new profile or use the Profile Manager to start with the current default profile to get the Reset button in Firefox.

If none of these work, start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then try these instructions again.
