Have a user that accidentally deleted 4 mos of emails from their inbox. Didn't tell us until a month had passed. They want to restore the missing 4 months.

We have an image backup from the date after the deletion... however, if we restore the whole profile, we wipe out the last month of data.

So I created a new profile, and restored the backup files there. When we try to open that profile however, it asks us to create a new email account. All I want to do is see the old folders... but I cannot get past the "create new email account".

Any one know of a way around that? Any one know of a way of moving emails from one profile to another?

Several points here.

1. This add-on can recover deleted mails in a folder that has not been compacted. https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/index-en.html#recDelMsg

Given compaction s default levels it is probably that a compaction event has not occurred in a month... It would depend on the volumes of mail. Worth a try because it is easy, and if it happened once it may well happen again.

2. The import export tools do a pretty good job at importing single folders. from which it is a fairly simple matter to grab the month you want. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

3. Create a folder in the profiles folder with a string followed by a dot and a string that will be the used as the profile name. Copy the contents of the original profile folder into this one. Restart Thunderbird with the profile manger tell it to create a new profile and select the folder you just created and populated with the contents of the old profile. That should work, as long as what you place in the profile is in the same relative position

The usual issue is the old profile is dravdsfe.default the new is lkdsprd.default and following the copy you get a folder structure in explorer like dravdsfe.default\lkdsprd.default which will not work
