Computers all use UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) internally, aka Greenwich Mean Time, aka ZULU as the US Navy calls it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTC Then the operating system subtracts the offset from UTC as set in user settings to come up with the "local time". That 5 hour offset from UTC indicates the Eastern North Americam Time Zone.
