When I use tools > import > messages Eudora and Outlook are both greyed out. Only Outlook Express is available. I had Thunderbird installed at one time and then uninstalled it. When I installed it again my accounts were all set up already (a good thing) and it didn't give me the option to import messages from Outlook. What am I doing wrong?

Two things.

Outlook import is broken at the moment. You will need to install Thunderbird 31 to import from Outlook. Making assumptions I think this will do it for you. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/31.8.0/win32/en-US/

Second. Thunderbird stored your settings and mail in a profile folder separate from the program. Uninstalling does not touch this profile folder.
