Update 40.0.2 is slow, hangs a lot, even in safe mode.
So, i tried several things in the troubleshooting articles here in the Support, but none solved my issues.
Basically, after Firefox automatically updated to 40.0.2, the browser hangs a lot on opening and closing tabs, as well loading websites. When not doing anything, the CPU/RAM usage is normal, but opening or closing tabs uses a lot of CPU (most of the time, 100% of the CPU is being used when browsing) and it hangs every time. Scrolling down pages also causes the browser to hang. I tried disabling several plugins and extensions and I even tried using safe mode, but even in safe mode it happens constantly. I'll post the specs of my computer (not big deal), but remember that these issues didn't happen before the update.
Core 2 Duo, 2.93 GHz 4 GB RAM Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit GeForce 8400GS
Please, did anyone find problems with this new update? What should I do? I've been using Firefox since 2007 and I love it, I'd hate to switch to another one.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?
Sorry for the late reply.
I restarted my computer in Safe Mode with Network, restarted Firefox in Safe Mode and used it for a while.
It still hangs, though not as frequently, and the hangings last less than in normal mode, but still, it continues to hang and being slow at opening or closing tabs, scrolling too.
What could be causing this? Should I somehow downgrade if no solution should be found?
As a test, disable your anti-virus and test Firefox.

Can't post the log here, character limit.
Please read my last message again.
Okay, so my language is Portuguese, sorry about that. And I had to remove part of the log including printer settings because of the "Please keep the length of your content to 10,000 characters or less."

Any clues?
As a test, disable your protection programs. Run Firefox at Safe sites like this one. Any change?
No change, this problem started after the update, back then I didn't have any antivirus or security software installed.
Please wait for others to respond. This problem is likely something on your system, but I suspect an add-on is also causing issues.

If it is an extension as Fred suggests disable each of them to say "Never Activate" one by one to see if it is an intrusive extension (these are not disabled in safe mode):
I tried that, it isn't the problem.
I updated to 40.0.3 and a lot of the hangs and delays (and the "not responding" messages) isn't happening now. The CPU use is stable (only increasing momentarily when opening huge websites like Facebook). I still get occasional hangs and delays when scrolling, though. When opening and closing tabs, they don't last more than 3 seconds to appear/disappear like in the 40.0.2. Well, from time to time we always face these problems that appear to not have a logic explanation or solution anyway.
You can check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
Sorry for posting here again, but the problem still exists at 41.0.1.
I honestly don't know what else to do. Everyday I miss more and more when I browsed with Firefox using 300-400k RAM and 40- CPU usage. Now it reached 1.000k RAM and 80 CPU.
I considered downgrading to version 39, but I can't find it, when I go to the help page about downgrade, I can only browse some folders and files I don't understand (?).
Please, consider helping me to at least downgrade to update 39. Thank you.

Well, I guess I'll be leaving Firefox. I can't believe I would say that, but...

Okay, this was very frustrating to do but it seems to have worked. However I can't import my history and my passwords. I do exactly as the page shows, transfering the key3.db/signons3.sqlite (for passwords) to the new profile, but they don't show up there when I open the browser. They still appear correctly at the old profile. How can I transfer all of them? The same thing happened to bookmarks, but I imported as HTML and it worked.
Thank you for the solution on that one, that problem was really consuming me.
Okulungisiwe
You need the logins.json and key3.db files to recover the passwords. The signons.sqlite file was used in older versions, but you can force Firefox to reimport the passwords saved in that file provided that you haven't changed the master password.
For the history and bookmarks you need the places.sqlite file.
It worked now, thank you.
Do you think any of these files you mentioned could be corrupt or causing problems? After I imported the places.sqlite for the history, the browser started to have some delays again, so I had to switch back to the new one. At least I have all the passwords again and the browser isn't behaving bad.
