Whenever I try to type in a box or on a form I find text has frozen and cursor disappeared. Collapsing and then restoring window allows a few more characters be typed. Windows 7 64-bit and Nightly.

Try clearing your browser memory, resetting it to the default settings. If still problem then reinstall the browser and your problem will vanish. (Also make sure your internet connection is good, and some times some elements of the page takes to much time to load and thus leading to a frozen page or hic-upped page operations)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can try to disable multi-process tabs.

Thanks for the suggestions. Have already tried all but one of these, to no avail; even reset. I think I will have to try the reinstall.

Incidentally I have had to collapse and restore browser several times (via taskbar) in order to type this reply.

Reinstall had no effect even after deleting profile. (4 collapses and restores in order to type this).

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

Did you use the Profile Manager to create a new profile or did you Refresh/Reset Firefox?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
