The employer's mail server allows SMTP for internal clients only. External access is limited to POP3 and IMAP by the firewall. Dropping off email by SMTP is limited to the spam guard / firewall only, which blocks most email due to their similarity to use like an open relay.

I've seen clients to use IMAP for sending mail, and I wonder how to comfigure Thunderbird to use IMAP as transport, too.

Any hint ?

IMAP and POP are protocols for incoming email.

SMTP is outbound.

I would be interested in seeing what clients you have found that do otherwise.
