why doesn't my address book show up when I start a new email?
When I open Thunderbird to check and read mail my address book is an option on the toolbar. But when I open write to create and send an email, the address book is gone. Why? and how do I get it back?

In the Write window, F9 or in the menu (where else?) View|Contacts Sidebar. You can also add a button to the Write window's toolbar.
Why do you need to see the Address Book? I just type the start of the addressee's name or email address.
