This seams specific to my vSPhere vcenter, but others in my office can access it without an error. Refreshing Firefox, and running without plug-ins did not help

I did finally figure it out. The web page had an embedded https connection to another port on the vcventer (9443). I manually added the exception by copying the text or the error and extracting the embedded URL, then adding it under the certificates control panel.

After that I was fine.
