I used the "Download Bar" and "Download Status Bar" add-ons to see my downloads at the bottom of the window. Both have an option for every download to "show in folder", so to open a window of the directory that contains the file.

In both, the "show in folder" option launched the "Baobab" program, a disc usage analysis program. And if I removed the Baobab software, both plugins opened the download in "Gwenview", an image viewer.

Rather than both add-ons performing these strange actions independently, I would think there is a setting in firefox for the "view in folder" that is set to the wrong program. I cannot find it in the helper applications list (and of course "show in folder" is not a searchable file type).

Does anyone know which configuration file ties mozilla *actions* to specific progams -- and how to change those?

It seems the default (show in folder) action is ignored and an assigned application chosen by Linux is opened, so rather than uninstalling that software to run I would try to fix that - it’s not a real surprise another program is opened now.

Helper actions for Firefox should be defined and changed as mentioned in the Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files article. If you think that doesn’t work, removing the file called mimeTypes.rdf (in your Firefox 52) or handlers.json (as of Firefox 55) in your profile folder should do the trick. I would uninstall both add-ons and reinstall one of them afterwards, not both, unless they do different things. Also make sure these add-ons are actually still maintained and compatibel with your Firefox version as reported on the Add-ons website.

Use this in a terminal window to check the default application: xdg-mime query default inode/directory Use "xdg-mime default" to set a new application.
