Can't get to Apple Support

more options

I can not access Apple's Support page. Every time I try to do so all I get is an error message/page saying "We'll be right back". I have tried posting a screen shot (several times) but it will not load.

That was for troubleshooting. Now that we know you don't have any add-ons that are causing this, you can install add-ons.

But there are other unresolved issue that I shouldn't have add on for. So why would I use add-ons now? You also say you “don’t know about” the other issues but I did explain them so you do know ABOUT them even if you don’t know how to fix them….

Please just install that add-on, you can remove it after you test.

For the other issues, please start new threads.

The add-on did NOT work!

I'm not gonna start new threads when I can't even get 1 issues resolved....

I get that too: I went to https://support.apple.com/ and tried the Contact Apple Support for help link in Firefox 61, Chrome 67, and Internet Explorer 11 and got "We'll be back soon" in all three browsers.

This is on 64-bit Windows 7.

Threads on Apple's forums from the past 30 days all point toward the site not working with Windows 7, which is strange since it remains a very popular OS:

Thank you….finally someone that knows what I’m talking about! However, I do not believe it is a Windows 7 thing nor do I think it is an Internet Explorer thing because I was NOT having the issue when I used IE 11 - I have ONLY been having it since I’ve switched to Firefox 61.

Did you read the threads on Apple's support forums? Are you familiar with the phrase post hoc ergo propter hoc (Wikipedia)?

Point being....what?

It's probably a coincidence that Apple's site stopped working in all browsers on Windows 7 after you installed Firefox 61.

A coincidence? No, that is not true! If you look at your own posting the dates you give for those issues are June 5, June 28 & July 8 but I did not start using Firefox & have the issues until July 1 so according to you the issue started on June 5 but I have not been having it until July 1 so that is a twenty-seven (27) day DIFFERENCE! So how is it a “coincidence” that this is all happening to me at the same time? The issues itself did NOT happen at the same time - ONLY THING that happen at the same time was MY experience with it! But how does you posting any of that ACTUALLY FIX anything? Quite frankly, it DOESN’T! All it does is prove my point that it does not work! I am here for ANSWERS on how to FIX IT so please don’t tell me something I already know! If you are so smart….than fix it!

Get me a job at Apple and I will fix it for you. ;-)

But for an immediate workaround, you can set Firefox to lie to websites and tell them you have Windows 10. This is a two-tab operation because you need to copy paste a few different things. Here's how:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste usera and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Select and copy this preference name

general.useragent.override

(4) Right-click a blank area and choose New > String from the menu

(5) Paste the new preference name and click OK, type TBD or other temporary text and click OK

(6) Select and copy this user agent string

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0

For reference, your browser identified itself in your original post as:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0

(7) Double-click the general.useragent.override preference and paste the new user agent string, then click OK

Possibly that could cause problems on other sites, so if you need to switch back:

(8) Double-click the general.useragent.override preference and edit 10.0 to 6.1 and then click OK

I don’t want an “immediate workaround” to “lie” I want it FIXED to work PROPERELY the way it SHOULD! What part of that do you not understand? Quite frankly, jscher2000, I don’t like your crap!

Hey, please check the attitude. Most volunteers on this forum are just that, volunteers. They have come here to give you their time, and don't deserve to be yelled at or bullied.

You've been told multiple times that this is an issue on Apple's website. THEY made a change to their support website that apparently filters out Windows 7 users, and only they can fix it. You can try the useragent change to see if it allows you to use the support website, but unless you work at Apple this is beyond the control of Firefox or any other company to fix.

Tyler, that is unacceptable! How many times do I have to say that I do not believe for a second it has anything at all to do with Apple & Windows 7? If I had this problem with Internet Explorer I would have believe it but NOT AT ALL when it DOES NOT HAPPEN UNTIL THE VERY SECOND that I switch to Firefox!

I am not trying to yell or bully but with that being said, you have no idea whatsoever how annoying it is when I can’t get any actual answers! I have said multiple times that I am completely sick & tired of someone blaming someone else for problems! All you volunteers accuse Apple yet when I ask Apple they have no idea whatsoever what I am taking about! How, EXACTLY, does THAT make ANY logical sense at all? Do you REALLY expect me to believe it is an Apple issue if they don’t know about it?

The screenshot you showed is the Apple website, why do you think the error message is from anyone other than apple?

Hi JustSerfin, try the workaround. On my Windows 7, simply changing how Firefox identifies my Windows version from 6.1 to 10.0 allows the site to load normally. Feel free to inform Apple of this and ask how they explain it.

Adding screenshots of what happens with my real user agent string (64-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows 7) and my dishonest user agent string (64-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows 10) for reference.
