Tabs--espcially, but not only pinned tabs--spontanously move to a new window

more options

This can happen when i click on the tab or even when I dont. NYtimes and google calendar are especially prone to leaving the window I am using and opening in an altogether new one. I prefer to have only one window open. i have the 'open in new tab' preference clicked. This began a month or so ago. I am using el capitan mac and latest firefox.

Firefox has a feature called "tear-off" tabs that moves a tab to a new window if you drag it upwards or downwards from its position on the tab bar. If you are a quick clicker, it's possible this could happen accidentally. There is an add-on that moves tabs back to their earlier position when they are "detached" from a window. You could try that temporarily to address that issue and see whether there are other situations in which tabs are moved to a new window unexpectedly.
