How can I remove a mailaccount?
Accidentally Mozilla made a new e-mail account while I wanted to change the settings of my mailaccount. Now I have two mailaccounts with the same email address. I want to change the settings of the mailaccount, but I can't do this. Every time I try to change settings I get the message "Er bestaat al een account met deze naam. Voer een andere accountnaam in." (Meaning in english: There is already an account with this name. Add another account name). This is quite anoying as I can't receive emails anymore on this account, since the settings are not good. How can I remove the new email account with the same name as my old email account? I can see there is an option 'remove', but I just can't click it.

Your previous images do not say 'identiteit beheren' , it says 'Accountacties'
There are more than four options and none of them say Edit.
So it would seem you are in the wrong place.
In the 'Account Settings' window select mail account - not the top one as it is set as default. It cannot be set as default if you want to delete it. See your image below.
Then you should have options like the second image.

Try changing the name of the account. click on OK Restart Thunderbird
Then try to remove account.
I succeeded in changing the name of the account. (And after that I could change the settings of my former account with the same name. So that's fine.
But I still cannot remove the account. Nor can I remore other accounts that I don't need anymore (like the former schoolaccount of my son). There is a lock-sign through the envelop-sign that comes before the accountnames in Thunderbird. Maybe that means that it cannot be removed? Or maybe there is a way to get rid of that lock-sign?
You can't remove the default account. Tools/Account Settings, select another account in the left pane, then Account Actions, Set as Default, then select the first account, Account Actions, Remove Account.
A lock icon indicates the account uses a secure, SSL or STARTTLS, connection.
I do not get the option to 'set as default'. Just like I don't get the option to delete the account. I can see the buttons, but I can't click them.
When I go to settings and then choose the dutch option 'identiteit beheren' (account actions?) I get four buttons: - toevoegen (add) - bewerken (edit) - als standaard instellen (set as default) - verwijderen (delete). But only the first and second button I can click on. This means I can add as many accounts as I want, but I can not get rid off them.
Anyway, it does not matter whether it is the default account or nog, I can't remove any account at all. There are three accounts that I would like to get rid off and I can't get rid of any of them. (nor do I get an option to delete any of my other accounts).

Note: If you want to delete an account which is currently set as default and shown at the top, you must set another mail account as default first, before you can remove it.
re: identiteit beheren This is something very different. This is not what you are looking for in your case, but here is some info about 'identiteit beheren'. All info here in English and Dutch:
Thank you so much. I finally found the right place to click it, thanks to your pictures.
