Can't change IMAP folder level or create top-level folders

Thunderbird (60.8.0 (64-bit)) will not allow me to create new top-level folders in an IMAP account. It only allows me to create a subfolder of "Inbox".

DreamHost is my mail provider and I haven't been able to make the changes via webmail either. When I created the account in Thunderbird a top-level "Inbox" folder was automatically created with "Sent", Junk", and "Deleted" subfolders in it. I would like to have those folders on the same level in the hierarchy as "Inbox". I tried changing the folder properties in Thunderbird by editing the folder location but editing the location string is disabled.

My other IMAP email account (with a different provider) is set up with "Sent", Junk", and "Deleted" folders on the same level as the "Inbox". I have also previously had a DreamHost IMAP account set up this way. DreamHost tech support hasn't offered any solutions.

What do dream host say about he IMAP server directory? What is it? Looking at the images here https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/216962167-Mozilla-Thunderbird-overview

It looks like the dreamhost server is configured to hang everything off the inbox folder.

Setting the server directory in account settings > server setting > advanced might make it look like you want. Try it and see is all I can suggest. The directory server might be INBOX. This is case sensitive on IMAP servers as they have case sensitive file systems, unlike windows.

Thanks for your reply. I did try changing the Advanced Server Settings.

I tried deleting "INBOX." from the "Personal Namespace" field. I also unchecked "Show only subscribed folders". I still cannot add new folders on the same level as the Inbox folder.

I then offer you a couple of "might work" things. They did not. So back to dreamhost.
