.jpg won't open since the last update, which fixed .pdf to open. I followed the instructions above to go to options, but I don't have .jpg in the list for actions. I then followed instructions to double click on the .jpg attachment, but I do not get the window to select how it is to be opened so it can be added. How else do you add .jpg and .jpeg to the list? Thank you!

Continued from original question.

If you don't see the window after double-clicking the jpg, or right-click, Open, try running in safe mode: hold Shift when you launch TB. Any difference?

Thank you. No, but I'm getting a message now that says "TB couldn't install the latest update. We'll show you how to reinstall the program."

Will I lose my data or settings? Also, is this difficult because I've never installed a program. I have subfolders with lots of important emails in there. Should I hire a professional to install it? Thank you so much!

If you uninstall or re-install the program, your data, which is kept in a separate location from the program files, is not affected. If you follow the directions given in the message, you shouldn't have any problems, but if you do, you can always download the full installer from thunderbird.net.
