Cannot re-install Tbird without creating a new profile

I was trying to resolve a different problem and thought I'd delete and re-install Tbird in case it helped. For various reasons I ended up opening the 'create a new profile' dialogue box when installing Tbrid 68.0 but decided I didn't want to do that as I already have a profile. So I cancelled and then decided to install 68.5 anyway but when I did that it immediately came up with the 'create new profile' dialogue box even though I didn't opt for that. And if I cancel that box the whole installation fails. What I don;t know is ... If i create a new profile (that I don't want), will it matter? Can i just create it and finish the installation and would i then have access to my old profile and just be able to ignore the new one?

I don't want to do anything without knowing the implications as I am very worried about losing my old emails which would be a disaster for my business! Any help gratefully received :).

Managed to sort this now but I still have my original problem: All my emails are invisible. when I run 'Repair folder' they reappear until I swap to another window and when I go back to Thunderbird they are all invisible again. If anyonw can help with this it would be much appreciated. Windows 7, Tbird 68.5

I doubt there is a 'create a new profile' dialog when installing Thunderbird. A new profile is created upon starting Thunderbird the first time, and only in case no other profile exists. Therefore I have no idea what you're talking about.

Is it possible you mean the new account creation dialog when Thunderbird starts with a new profile?
