I've just downloaded Thunderbird 78.4.0 as my previous email programme has died. I have used Mailwasher in the past to eliminate junk emails but there seems to be a problem working with Thunderbird. Emails download okay but do not clear on Mailwasher when downloaded. If I delete an email on Mailwasher it removes it from the Thunderbird in-box.

I am not a techie in any way so would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

your old account was probably configured as POP and your new one as IMAP. You need to understand the differences to make reasoned decisions.

Matt Many thanks for that. I have worked out that my old programme (Eudora) downloaded from the server onto my computer whereas Thunderbird leaves everything on the server. Account settings assumes IMAP and I cannot see if that can be changed to POP3. Now I undrestand what is happening I will simply change my way of working! Michael

Because they are so radically different (IMAP and POP) you only get to specify which to use when you add the account. It can not be changed for existing accounts.
