My brother sent an email with 5 family photos attached. I opened it, looked at the photos. Then it wouldn't let me close the email. It wouldn't let me close Thunderbird. I had to use Task Manager on my PC to close it down. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Same problem as before - it opens the email from bro and won't close it. What to do?

Try to use The safe mode options for Thunderbird. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird Use this option even if this PC is frozen.

Try to find out what went wrong or whether the options you want to use or whether they disappear in safe mode or cause problems again outside safe mode.

Then make sure these are removed or refreshed and reinstalled.

Such as disabling some Security software and/or firewalls or other programs that can be considered an obstacle.

Read this down below if you think that your app is still freezing.

Try this to if it s possible to

Create an exception in your anti-virus software for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the anti-virus real-time scanner will not scan it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

If this app not respond read some of this form. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Application_not_responding

How often does this occurrence happen? Can I ask?

Try to

Close down computer - wait - then restart computer. Start Thunderbird in Safe Mode by holding down the 'Shift' key while starting the application.
