Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to www.newsmax.com.

I just started getting this error:

Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to www.newsmax.com.

I cannot find how to make this stop. I will get emails from Newsmax about articles and if there is something I want to read I click on the link in the email. I never had a problem with Firefox not opening the link. This just started and I can not get the link to open. I have Newsmax set up as a home setting. However, after I got the Secure Connection Failed error, I could not open the Newsmax web page even if I typed in www.newsmax.com. I am about to uninstall Firefox and use another browser. Can you please tell me how to fix this?

Sometimes a link requires a redirect that need to be handled via HTTP as this isn't possible via HTTPS. If Firefox wants to upgrade the HTTP email link to HTTPS then this will fail.

Does it work if you copy the link and paste it in the Firefox address bar?

No, once I get the error I cannot open that page unless I either close the app and open it again. I can also go to Tools- Page info and clear cookies and site data. I am ready to remove Firefox and use another browser. This is just not going to work for me, it does this multiple times a day. How can I remove this version and go back to an older version that works?

I wonder why Clear Cookies and Site Data works. Is there a paywall that kicks in after a certain number of views?

How can I remove this version and return to an older version that works? I never had this problem before and Microsoft Edge and Chrome do not have this problem. I do not see anyone getting a solution so this does not happen every time I try to go to www.newsmax.com. I like Firefox, however, if I cannot open a site I want to I might as well uninstall it. I did a refresh and that did not help. Can I get a link to an older version that works?

Hi David, in a date-banded search I did see a similar report on another forum:

Since Firefox auto-updates, if this was a general problem with Firefox 129, I would expect to see many more reports by now. Since I don't see them, I am skeptical that switching to an older version would be helpful. If you still want to try an older version, you can install the Extended Support Release of Firefox 115 or 128 alongside your regular version of Firefox. They will have separate data folders so -- assuming you don't sign the ESR release into your Firefox Account -- you can do a clean test.

You can check for issues with Enhanced Tracking Protection and Total Cookie Protection. Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages like about blocked content.

I contacted Newsmax, who said the problem comes from the Firefox Windows version. I have never had a problem with the Android version of Firefox. The only problem is Windows. I have to constantly clear cookies and data. Then hit try again then the page will open.
