By icons, I mean the "Refresh", "Back", "Forward", etc. icons on the address bar.

Basically, every time I open Firefox, after a little while of use, the images and icons will just stop appearing. Especially weird is the fact that when this happens, the icons will not disappear until I mouseover them, which I found extremely odd.

This used to start happening after about an hour of use, and I could just close the browser and it would work fine. However, it gradually took shorter and shorter amounts of time, until now, when it essentially happens as soon as I open Firefox.

Does anyone understand the problem here?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
