I need to be able to copy and paste or write down links/urls of the websites I'm on for school assignments and citing research papers but the "awesome bar" on the new version doesn't tell me the url for the website I'm on, it just tells me the last thing I typed in it.

That's strange, usually if you type a search and press Enter, the new URL displays. If someone doesn't offer a real solution, at least you have a workaround: the Page Info dialog.

right-click > View Page Info > General tab

(If you have the orange Firefox button, tap the Alt key to display the classic menu bar)

Tools > Page Info > General tab

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
