Do a MALWARE check with these Malware Scanning programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you UPDATE each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

@mha007:
The OP is on Linux, so solutions that apply to the Windows platform won't help.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Edit > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

It is possible that servers get confused by your Ubuntu branded user agent with "Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic)".
- Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110422 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.6.17
You can try this user agent instead to see if that helps.
- Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110422 Firefox/3.6.17
You can set that user agent via the pref general.useragent.override on the about:config page.
You need to update that pref after each update of Firefox or install the version from the Mozilla site instead to avoid that modification of the user agent.
