Since I downloaded the latest version - 6.0 of Firefox, I am having serious slowness of page loads. Nothing has changed in my PC or Network configuration and in the past have had very fast loading of everything - even streaming of videos, etc. The only thing I found in your help about all pages loading slowly was something about a proxy add ons issue - but I don't have that enabled. It seems to be even worst when I am submitting a form -

There is no 'Clear Recent History' on the Tools menu?

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.

Tried all these fixes at least 5 times and none work. I have to keep going back to 5. Simply go to filehippo download version 5, reinstall and it works again. This is getting as bad as Microsoft when waiting for a problem to be fixed or at least acknowledged by the company. Ive been a loyal Firefox user for 3 years and I am a little disgusted. How do you advance to newer versions before you de-bug the last one?

The problem is that there is no such a thing as a PERFECT browser. Chrome has its own issues too (Printing problems such as print previewing is horrible, and also abode reader also is missing options - bad for a student). IE is just plain crap still even after version 9 it still cannot remember my hotmail password/username! FF 6.0 is horrible as well all the problems you mentioned above and more!!

I am using all 3 web browsers in combination as each one has advantages and disadvantages. Until the perfect browser is created (someone let me know when it does) there is no just one single alternative.

I really really love firefox, and I am begging the developers, please please do not ruin version 7. This will be the icing on the cake, and I will leave for good!

By the way An alternative to Chrome is comodo dragon. IT is chrome under the hood, with advanced security features by comodo. Give it a go...

Keep in mind that Google Chrome has pretty much the WORST security of any browser. IE doesn't maintain any HTTP standard that the other browsers do. Apple's Safari wants you to download MobileMe, iTunes, Quicktime, and all the other Apple software. Firefox 6 doesn't play well with older pages that use Java. I got around most of these problems by running Firefox 3.6.22. Never really had any issues, save for a few page freezes. I tried FF 4, and I didn't like it and went back until now, and I've got 6, and most of it runs well, but some pages with Java and Flash. So in all, I'd just downgrade back to FF 3.6.

Tried all suggested solutions. The only one that worked was return to FF 5.

Clearing cache did not help. I have a new win computer and it was screaming fast until I upgraded to Firefox 6. I also have a MacBookPro that is very fast and that is running like a dog as well. It's not just slow to load pages but the cursors slow (delayed) even just opening the add-on's page to see what add-ons I have running. Most of them I turned off already and still very slow and I didn't have many running to start. I am very disappointed I did the upgrade since I don't know how to downgrade to the old FF5. I guess I need to use IE9 and Safari for the meantime until these problems are resolved.

I just downgraded to FF5 and it is amazing the difference in speed. There is definitely something not working correctly in FireFox 6 that is just slowing it down. Even with multiple add-ons installed and running (basic security and ehancements) it is very fast and no hangups or non-responsive pages. Someone needs to revert everyone back to FF5 and pull back 6 until the problems are fixed.

I had the same problem with version 6.0 and up. Turns out the problem, for me anyway, was related to the cocoon add-on. I uninstalled it months ago, but noticed today that the cocoon icon was still visible. Obviously part of it was still left behind and potentially affecting browser performance. I reinstalled cocoon and now sites like BBC news are loading normally.

On second thought, maybe cocoon is fixing whatever is broken?

I might have discovered the solution without starting over with all your places and bookmarks.

Right after i installed 7.0.1 over a week ago, every 10-30 min When i would be watching videos online, it would freeze for 20-30 seconds. Firefox would say ( Not responding) both firefox and the plugin container process would be very large memory files. I tried to go back to Firefox 5.0. No avail it would still freeze.I tried to disable the plugin container . no good. I tried to adjust memory or cache or plugin settings in “about:config”.Nothing fixed it!

I finally discovered why my Firefox 7.01 was periodic hanging fix. It is something to do with some of your personal files. download this this add on and install it https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/

or you can Google "places maintenance Firefox"

After you install the add on, restart Firefox.go to "tools", then "add ons" and then click “extensions” tab ,then click' options" on the "places maintenance" entry. choose "ALL' or just "expire" and hit "execute", then wait until its done., restart Firefox. should be fine then and all my bookmarks, customizations ,settings, and history stays untouched!

After i did this my Firefox did not freeze once for over 3 days straight. Might not work for everyone. I already read thaqt Mozilla is aware of the problem and are working on a fix it in the full version of 8( the 8 beta did not fix the problem for me) . But they said this is a good temporary fix at least,( might be permanent)

For me at least ,Firefox works fine in 7 now. perfect actually. And many people i saw on similar forums had similar problems.

Enjoy. Hope this helped
