firefox is running somewhere on my computer and I cannot find it to get rid of it

I had firefox 7 runnint. The IT people told me to use ff3.6. I downloaded 3.6 without uninstalling 7 and now firefox does not open at all. When I go to control panel to uninstall, it says it is running and I have to close it, but it is not running anywhere I can find it. When I try to install it, it says it is running but I dont know where it is.

Start with item #2

  1. close Firefox with File > Exit or "Firefox" button > Exit. (not with the "X" in upper right corner that just closes the Window). Give Firefox some time to close and
  2. check that "firefox.exe" is finished via Windows 7 shortcut to WTM "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" in the "Processes" tab make sure that firefox.exe is no longer running -- if it is still running then terminate it by selecting the use "End Process" button or from context menu. (don't check the "Applications" tab you need to check processes.)
  3. proceed with the install

I can no longer open firefox. Uninstall won't let me uninstall because it says it is running, but when I click on the icon, nothing happens.
