About a month ago I started getting crashes at random. Then my Firefox crashed on startup. I intstalled a new Firefox. After a few days it started again. Then I tried Google Chrome. It worked for a while and then it did the same. I went back to Firefox and installed Firefox 9. The same sequence - ultimately nothing works, It will not open in safe mode either. My virus syatems don't find anything. It doesn't seem top affect IE, but I don't want to use IE.

Try to disable the JIT compiler and set the some of the jit prefs (Filter: jit) to false on the about:config to see if that helps.
