Hi larafox,
Copy this address: https://duckduckgo.com/
Open Tools (Alt + T) > General, paste the copied address in the box by the side of Home Page:, click the box (above) beside When Firefox starts: change the option to Show my home page and click OK below.

Change your homepage to whatever you want.
See - How to set the homepage
Also,
Please see Search Bar. You can delete existing ones and add new search engines from pages that offer it. For eg. when @ DuckDuckGo or YaCy, clicking on the left-side icon of the search bar would give an extra option to Add the particular search engine. Likewise, when on this page you can add the Firefox Help search engine.

Hi, You are terrific . but I only was able few things to accomplish , probably i need step by step directions . I had Firefox homepage open. in the right box , i find add new search and added GuckDuckgo , and also added it to my Bookmarks, but in the middle of the screen i still have Google search bar . What i am not doing correctly ? or the only option i have is to click on guckduckgo bookmark when i want normal search? Maybe i do not understand when you say , clicking on the' left-side icon' of the search bar would give an extra option to Add the particular search engine. ?? TY
Just switch to Safari or Google Chrome as your browser, and make one of these your default browser.
