I'm having problems with the latest Firefox release, Firefox 15.0, as a privacy practice, because I share my computer with my family, I always set my Firefox to 'never remember history', however, after closing Firefox, then reopening it, I checked 'Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content', the cache is saved, and after repeated attempts to clear the cache within Firefox and using CCleaner, Firefox still saves the cache. When I was using Firefox 14.0.1, I never had this problem.

Also, the 'Restart with Add-ons Disabled' on Firefox 15.0 doesn't disable add-ons, it resets Firefox, again, when I was using Firefox 14.0.1, I never had this problem.

I have downgraded back to Firefox 14.0.1, until Firefox fixes this.

The history and the cache are two different things. The history is saved in places.sqlite and is simply a list of sites visited. The cache is a directory where copies of webpages, images, stylesheets, javascripts, etc. are stored.

If you look at the Tools menu, you will see an item called "Clear Recent History". Set the time range to "Everything", then click the button that says "Details" to show a list of checkboxes. You can choose what to clear from there. Do not clear site preferences, though. You will lose the permission settings if you do that.

Okay, I've done a clean install of Firefox 15.0, I went to options, then I went to, "Advanced", clicked on "Network", on my Cached Web History, it says, "Your web content cache is currently 180KB of disk space", then Offline Web Content and User Data says, "Your application cache is currently using 0 bytes of disk space", then I clicked on “Clear Now” on both, now Cached Web History says, “ Your web content cache is currently using 0 bytes of disk space”, and Offline Web Content and User Data has the same message, then I went to Privacy, then set Firefox to "Always use private browsing mode" then I clicked on Okay. Then I exited and reloaded Firefox, then I did a Google search, then I typed on the address bar, about:cache, these are the results:

Memory cache device Number of entries: 116 Maximum storage size: 18432 KiB Storage in use: 517 KiB Inactive storage: 517 KiB List Cache Entries

Offline cache device Number of entries: 0 Maximum storage size: 512000 KiB Storage in use: 0 KiB

Using Private Browsing Mode, about:cache should be blank, but not in Firefox 15.0, I am currently using Firefox 14.0.1, using PBM, and these issues on cache do not appear.

Some problems: 1) New tab page (with "+", on far right) displays yahoo search engine. It's not even my default search. (picture attached) 2)Installed extensions are no longer showing up on the extensions menu. I can see the "recently updated" extensions, but not a general listing of the extensions. (Picture Attached) 3) May or may not be a function of the upgrade but Norton security vault (logins) will not install on my XP computer (laptop). Had no problem on Windows 7 (desktop). While I'm sure the bugs will all be worked out, it's a little disorienting.

Hi kenar, I think these issues are different than the ones described by the original poster, but hopefully it won't be too confusing to continue discussion here.

2) Blank extensions list - please see this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/922028#answer-316831

Once you have your extensions list back:

1) Do you have a Yahoo toolbar or other Yahoo-related/Yahoo-enabled extension? If in doubt, disable everything nonessential.

To reset the behavior of the new tab page:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:

(i) Page thumbnails (default)

browser.newtab.url = about:newtab

(ii) Blank tab

browser.newtab.url = about:blank

(iii) Built-in Firefox home page

browser.newtab.url = about:home

(iv) Any other page

browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page

Click the "+" or press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked.

3) Regarding Norton, do you have the latest updates? Usually Symantec does a compatibility update very close to the Firefox release date.

Thanks you for your quick response. Fixing the extensions fixed both the add-on problem and seems to have fixed the thumnail tab as well.

As for the Norton; I've tried everything, but may try the extensions fix on the other computer as well. Like I say, the Windows 7 got the bar easily, not so with the XP. I know at a point it will solve.

Very appreciative for your help!
