I have done everything your web site says to do to uninstall Firefox. Nothing works. Windows message says no Mozilla Firefox uninstall program on my computer. Do I need a special download from you to uninstall?

I already tried everything suggested in the article. nothing works. I think I'm missing the uninstall program from Mozilla. How do i get it?

Do you have specific issues that you want to uninstall Firefox?

Note that uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox doesn't fix issues caused by corrupted files in the Firefox profile folder.

In such a case you can try to reset Firefox first and create a new profile.

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).

Incidentally, there is no uninstall program for Firefox.

Struggling with this issue, I'm surprised by the absence of an uninstaller.

Have tried all the suggested steps and nothing worked. It is frustrating. My reaction is "never again". Once I get this program off my system, I'll stay away from Mozilla.

You should be able to uninstall Firefox from the Control Panel if you installed it in Windows. If you are using Mac OS, there is a free app called App Cleaner which can remove all traces of an application.

Thank you for your response.

My system is Win XP, with SP3

Regret to say that the Add/Remove program did not work.

Also tried other suggested actions -- resetting; and "helper.exe" -- without success.

Then the only recourse would be to remove the program and the profile directories, and then use the registry editor to remove all instances of "Firefox" from the registry. Oh, and also remove the shortcuts in the start menu or the desktop.

Just had another thought - did you install Firefox from a .zip file? If so, you would probably not need to worry about removing anything from the registry.

I tend to notice some users wanting to uninstall Firefox and having problems are often in fact having malware or adware issues.

Thank you, John

The thought of malware occurred to me. However, the PC is updated and scanned daily by Microsoft Security Essentials.

In addition, it is kept updated and scanned with Malware Bytes.

So, that is not the problem.

Great, but how do I do it?

My failure to remove (uninstall) is what brought me to this forum.

None of the instructions for removal worked.

finitary -

In response to the second part of your message, no, the installation was not from a zip file.

From what I remember of Firefox on an XP there are virtually no registry entries, other than file associations. I do not recall XP having any direct protection that would prevent you from merely deleting the program files.

But I also do not know why your Control Panel does not work, in uninstalling Firefox.

  • What security related and backup software do you use ?

Could any of that be protecting or re-installing Firefox.

John -

Appreciate the time you have given to this issue.

1) In going through the forum found that I was not the only user facing the problem with Control Panel/Add-Remove. I have no clue why it does not work. But, then, Firefox \uninstall\helper.exe didn't work either.

2) The two security softwares running in the PC (Win XP, SP3) are:

Microsoft Security Essentials Malware Bytes

FYI, downloaded Revo Uninstaller and ran it. Except for some residual files, Firefox is gone. Good riddance. Shall delete the residual files.

Again, thanks.

Glad you solved the problem.

Thanks for posting back with a solution.
(Although I am not sure why standard methods did not work for you)

Thought i would add comments for the benefit of anyone else reading this thread, at a future date.

I would expect to find such problems relate to third party software, and not directly to problems with uninstalling Firefox. Related help articles are

2) The two security softwares running in the PC (Win XP, SP3) are: Microsoft Security Essentials Malware Bytes

Those are both commonly used software often recommended on this forum, and AFAIK cause no problems with Firefox, or with uninstalling Firefox.

I had this problem until today.... Simply go to filehippo.com, install version 15 of firefox. You will now be able to remove firefox from your pc. Glad to be of assistance :)

I do not recommend downloading Firefox from any site except one owned by Mozilla. You can get added junk dumped on you by going to some third party sites.

Thank you.

I have been following that rule.

Wise advise to use official sites. We spend a lot of time answering questions about adware, malware and search hijacks / unwanted toolbars.
