How do you mean; beyond the first screen? What screen are you talking about? What is the address bar say? What is on the screen? Can you take a picture and post it here?

when putting a subject on the search bar and pressing search nothing happens

Firefox has several places to search, including:

• Box in the middle of the default home page (about:home)
• Search bar with drop-down at the left to choose your search engine
• Address bar

Which one isn't working?

Some add-ons may alter your search service or break Firefox's search features. You could try this extension to reset them back to Google and see whether that helps: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
