Discovered this morning that Java is no longer running on my Win7/64. I have Firefox 26.0 (updated about 2 weeks ago), but there is no longer a Java plugin installed and I cannot get Java 7u45 to install. I have fully uninstalled all versions of Java listed in the Control/Programs, but still cannot get Java to install to Firefox. I have confirmed that the Java download is for 64 bit. I have also disabled the ad blocker and the tracking blocker in case they might be conflicting, but was not helpful. Incidentally, I am also experiencing problems with Shockwave. It takes forever to load/activate and causes the browser to freeze for an extended period of time.

Every thing was checked and seemed right, yet the plugin was not installing. Odd, but, after updating Shockwave, suddenly the Java plugin is installed. Now have a 32 bit browser running on an i7 64 bit computer.

Note that you need the 32 bit Java version for Firefox because Firefox is a 32 bit application.

Thought of that just now. I checked the Firefox install date in Control/Programs and noticed that my 64 bit version has been changed to 32 bit. So I downloaded and installed Java/32. No difference.

Oddly enough, my IE 10 is 32 bit, but Java 64 installed itself.

If Firefox doesn't find the Java plugin then it is possible that the registry key that Firefox uses to scan for plugins is missing.

Did you check that?

Working my way down the page that you referenced earlier. Have reached the registry edit portion. Waiting for friend to assist with this step. I'm not comfortable with registry data. Will update later tonight. Thanks.

Is the key for the Java plugin present or missing?

32 bit Windows:

HKLM\Software\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin,version=10.xx.xx

64 bit Windows:

HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin,version=10.xx.xx
