I can't figure out what is wrong. Firefox keeps closing on me for no reason, such as when I am checking a Facebook message, e-mail, or watching a video, it just closes like that. It did this to me at least 5X today! I checked the crash report, but it is not recorded as a crash. Not only does it close unexpectedly, but it plainly stalls, not buffers, just stalls and sits when I am watching a video until I more the runner back or restart it. It took me forever to get through the last video I watched today. Please tell me what could be done to fix this!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

I did all that you ask, reset my profile. Afterward I also reset Firefox and updated it. Lastly I went on Spybot to scan my computer and remove any malware. Nothing seems to help. It still closes on me unexpectedly and for no reason.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
