Hello,

I got my organization up and running with Thunderbird several months ago and we've been very happily using it until about a week ago--

We're now encountering an issue in which messages will no longer copy to the sent folder -- the "Copying message to sent folder" progress bar hangs forever, until closed, and then it says there was "An error copying message to sent folder". I have read multiple bug reports but most say the issue lies with the server settings. We several imap (server- media temple) accounts linked to thunderbird, and all are experiencing this problem. On my personal computer, however, I am not experiencing this issue, although the server settings are identical.

This problem began about a week ago. At the same time, thunderbird seems to have stopped allowing us to move messages from our inboxes to our imap folders -- neither click and drag, nor Message-->Move To will allow us to move messages. It will also not allow us to delete messages.

I am running Thunderbird 24.4.0, on mac os 10.6.8.

In the interim, I'm having Thunderbird BCC copies of sent messages rather than storing in the sent folder, but this won't work as a long term solution.

Any help would be very very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance, Jesse and Pistils Nursery

anti virus programs never used to be on Macs, and Mac users had few email problems after their initial configuration. Coincidence. Not really.

Are you using an anti virus program? McAfee is the current one causing havoc for Windows users. But they are all bad really.

Hey Matt,

Unfortunately we're not running an antivirus program, so I don't think that's causing our issue.

Any other ideas to try? Thanks for your help.

Best, Jesse

Is there a lot of emails in the 'Sent' folder?

Try this: Archive all older sent emails to reduce the folder size.

  • Select 'Sent' folder, highlight all emails older than eg: one month
  • They will show as 'conversations' in Message Pane.
  • click on 'Archive ' button - wait for this to occur
  • then try to send an email to yourself.

Did that email save a copy in Sent folder.

... thunderbird seems to have stopped allowing us to move messages from our inboxes to our imap folders ... :

This error could be because of the folder size. Try creating new folders instead of using the existing folders.
