Emails from gmail don't come in anymore since a few weeks
Hi there. I am new here, maybe someone can help me out. Since 2 or 3 weeks ago on my laptop my gmail account inside thinderbird did not update anymore, I suddenly did not receive new emails. On my mobile phone it works fine but on thunderbird no more mails came in in anymore. I already tried the things beneath, hopefully you can give me some kind of direction, thank you.
-Old passwords have been removed. -Restarted thunderbird and laptop many times. -Tried switching all options of port, authentifaction method and security on and off (automatically, none, etc) -Than we removed the account and after doing that succesfully, we tried to add the account again. Adding the account again didnt work strangely enough. Than we tried this: -Tried option pop3 instead of the recommended imap. -we tried to add another email account, that worked, so the problem is at thunderbird unfortunately, not at the google account.
Maybe you can help me out, thanks. Jelte Brouwer

It is best to set up gmail accounts as IMAP and use Authentication Method: OAuth2. If you set up as POP then you must set 'less secure apps' option in gmail webmail and be prepared that gmail will deliberately periodically block you which forces you to logon to their webmail account and reset the 'less secure apps' before gmail will allow access again.
However, the setup using IMAP - it is necessary to allow cookies in order to allow gmail to work. So, if you do not have cookies enabled then gmail will not work. If you have some clean up program like CCleaner that can clean up cookies, session files , passwords etc then do not allow it access to Thunderbird profile folder. It is possible the cookies expired or were removed.
In versions 78* or later:
Select 'Menu app icon' > 'Options/Preferences' In 'Options/Preferences' left Pane select Privacy & Security Select checkbox 'Accept cookies from sites'
Then create new existing mail account - set up gmail as IMAP using OAuth2. User Name is the full gmail email address. Gmail will then prompt you to logon using normal password in order to allow Thunderbird access and then it sets up a token which is used for Authentication from then onwards.
