Cryptolocker precautions block firefox install
Because of the current Cryptolocker malware threat, precautions are in place within our domain that prevent installing/upgrading Firefox, apparently this is due to disallowed areas being used in windows to extract and install to/from that location.
Reported disallowed areas are:
Path: %AppData%\*.exe Path: %AppData%\*\*.exe
Path Win XP: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\*.exe Path Win Vista/7/8: %LocalAppData%\*.exe
Path Win XP: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\*\*.exe Path Win Vista/7/8: %LocalAppData%\*\*.exe
Path Win XP: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temp\Rar*\*.exe Path Win Vista/7/8: %LocalAppData%\Temp\Rar*\*.exe
Path Win XP: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temp\7z*\*.exe Path Win Vista/7/8: %LocalAppData%\Temp\7z*\*.exe
Path Win XP: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temp\wz*\*.exe Path Win Vista/7/8: %LocalAppData%\Temp\wz*\*.exe
Path Win XP: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temp\*.zip\*.exe Path Win Vista/7/8: %LocalAppData%\Temp\*.zip\*.exe
Suggestions for resolution?
Chosen solution
Think I came up with my own solution:
- Download full package from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
- Make a new folder ... for myself it was Firefox 25 Install files
- Open the downloaded Full installer with 7-zip (right click file open archive or from 7-Zip menu open archive and navigate to where you downloaded the file to open)
- Extract setup.exe and "Core" folder to aforementioned made folder in step 2 (i.e. Firefox 25 Install files)
- Then run the setup.exe from FireFox 25 install files.
While I have figured this out, anyone else in my situation may not find this post or figure it out, but it is a dirty method to make the install happen.
