Firefox's latest update has caused my universities LCS website to no longer load. How long until we can turn of the stupid mixed content blocking for sites?

The university LCS is a modification of Sakai. This is not a minor, rarely used LCS. Due to the freaking stupid "upgrades" to Firefox, I can now no longer access the LCS website for one of the top Educational Technology programs in the world and have to use Chrome to get there. The ONLY reason I even have Firefox downloaded at this time is so that I can use Zotero for citations and bibliographies.

How long until the idiot developers figure out how to make it possible to disable this crap without having to jump through 47 different hoops?

If content is missing or otherwise not working when a secure https connection is used then check if there is a shield icon to the left of the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar indicating that content is blocked.

You can look at this extension to disable this security feature temporarily:

It's not that content is missing, the entire LCS will no longer load in Firefox. There's no excuse for that kind of garbage when it works without incident in every other browser that I tried (Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE). Firefox has a major problem as they've gone from fresh and creative to painfully unaware and stupid.

Tried the extension and it made no difference. Firefox is worthless outside of their Zotero integration at this point.

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

If you have turned off mixed content blocking (clicked the button to turn it from green to red) and the site still does not work, can you provide a URL to a page demonstrating the problem?

Cache and cookies didn't work. Here's the url:

If the extension isn't working for you, you may need to manually disable mixed content blocking using the about:config preferences editor. The downside is that you lose the protection on all sites. However, maintaining sanity comes first. ;-)

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste mixed and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the security.mixed_content.block_active_content to toggle its value from true (default value) to false.

You probably need to reload any already loaded page to get the missing content.

Even that didn't work. Looks like I'll try Zotero's standalone and see how it works with Chrome. Firefox has screwed the pooch on this one.

The Student Docs section of the site works fine for me with mixed active content blocking disabled (no shield to have to click). Your Firefox may have an additional issue that we have not yet discovered. If you have any interest in further troubleshooting, please post back for suggestions.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Randomly started loading properly again. Who knows.
