Shockwave keeps crashing regardless of fixes

more options

Shockwave continues to crash, regardless of whatever fixes are applied. FWIW, I'm having the same luck when using WaterFox. I have tried every fix posted in the last 2 weeks (short of a total reinstall of FF) with no luck. Very frustrating to say the least. Thanks!

Here is may crash log:

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Open Firefox Options window (Preferences on Mac or Linux) as follows:
    • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
    • In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  2. In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Wow, Run off to the store for snacks and everyone responds...thanks all! Here's a list of what I've already tried:

FF safe mode Reset FF to default settings All drivers up to date One-by-one test of Add-ons Total uninstall (by the book) of Shockwave The normal cache cleaning and folder purging Disabled hardware acceleration using Adobe troubleshooting page Waived a dead chicken over it (getting desperate)

All with no success. I did see something new (which I probably missed earlier) regarding disabling hardware acceleration in the FF advanced settings. That has now been done, so lets see what happens next!

Thanks

Another couple of crashes:

One of the above responses yesterday references a Bugzilla link; I'm just not sure what to do with it. Does that mean it's a known bug I'll have to live with?

When Firefox crashes, a watchdog program tries to gather information that it sends to the Mozilla big boys. The user is not usually contacted. If the user shows up here, and we read the reports. Sometimes, we can come up with a cure or workable solution. You can look at the reports yourself, but the report is mostly for the brains at Mozilla.

Understood. It's a shame that my most useful program is made unusable by my least useful program...

NEW --- Flash Plugin crash in F1506898907

You have an add-on; b9db16a4-6edc-47ec-a1f4-b86292ed211d There is talk on the web about it being malware.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I re-ran MalwareBytes and it did find some scraps of the previously removed download program. I deleted these files, then ran all of the other suggested programs for good measure. I'm booted back up and we'll see where this takes me. Thanks!

I was away for several days and greeted with the latest crash 5 minutes after starting the computer:

With the download app long gone and all of the above malware tools run, does the latest crash give any new ideas?

I really appreciate the help! How far back is the evil add-on? I'm not finding it for some reason. I did a major malware cleanse several days ago. For someone who has avoided getting cooties in their computer, this is humbling... :-(

Some are not normal that you add in, some are in your system.

Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder Linux:

  • Ubuntu Unity {web link}
  • Xfce: Applications Menu category sections
  • options depends on the package manager and the desktop environment

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

DownloadHelper

Here is how to find the extension name given the extension id:

1. type "about:support" in the location bar 2. press enter 3. find b9db16a4-6edc-47ec-a1f4-b86292ed211d

For example, the id for Adblock Plus is "{d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d}".

Downloadhelper was one of add-ons I was recently warned of (I think by you), so it was removed last week. I did a FF reset and only have a couple of extensions running at this time (lastpass, session manager). As I was just going to type it was doing better:
