Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite on my Mac, when I open a new tab in Firefox, rather than a grid of my most used sites along with the cursor going to the address bar, it now shows some stupid search page from Trovi.com and the cursor automatically goes to the search bar within Trovi.

I want it to go back to the address bar, as I want to enter my destination when I go to a new tab, not search for something.

Please help!!!  :)

Hello,

Unfortunately Trovi is malware - have you been able to remove it?

If you don't have many extensions, you can reset Firefox. It will put Firefox to the default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information. Note: After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information. See the end of my post for one additional step you might need.

If you do not want to reset, check your add-ons for suspicious extensions:

  • Go to your add-ons page by entering about:addons to the address bar, or going to
    • Tools (or New Fx Menu) > Add-ons > Extensions

Delete any extensions related to Trovi, or extensions that you are sure you didn't install. You might also want to check your mac's Application folder for programs that installed without your permission.

To change the new tab page, you will need to change your Firefox configuration:

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Search for browser.newtab.url and double click that row or right click and select Modify
  4. Set the value to about:newtab to get the default tab page.

Alternatively, you can install the Search Reset Tool. This extension will reset your home page, new tab page and search preferences back to factory default then uninstall itself.
