Thunderbird doesn't create link
Thunderbird 78.9.0 installed, but it happened also with some previous release (I don't remember the last one, but I install always when the announce for a new release arrives). Five different tests sending a mail to myself. Test 1: from Thunderbird I write a text (meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr), I select it and then I click on "Insert" and after on "Link", I copy the same txt as link to be connected. I receive a mail with only "meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr" as plain text, not colored Test 2: again from Thunderbird, without writing any text, I select "Insert" and then "Link" and then I insert the same text (meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr) as text and as link. I recevie a mail with "meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr <meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr>" Test 3: I write a mail from gmail web inserting the same text and link as above: I receive a correct mai with an operating link. Test 4 and 5, as test 1 and 2, but as text ai write a word, not the link itself. In both cases I receive a mail with the word colored and clicking with the right button I can copy the link, but there is not the open link choice. Thanks. Claudio

Hold shift when you open the compose window and try your Test 2 again and see if the result is different.

Try adding a small image to the body of the email to force send in HTML.
I think you are sending plain text not HTML emails, holding shift forces either plain text of HTML, depending on which is default.
If that is it, open options. Search for send options. and then click the send options button. disable send messages in plain text if possible and then try again.
I don't understand why, but now it works. Yesterday I have uninstall Thunderbird (saving profile) and then I have downloaded the installation program, installed again and restored the profile: no change). Today as I have received your suggestion I have tried to open the compose window with shift, but the menu to insert a link doesn't appear. I have took a look to send option and its were "plain case in any case". I have changed to force html and all run ok. But, just to try, I have changed again to force plain text and alla run ok in any case. The only difference is that in test 2 I receive a mail with text "meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr <meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr" ... and both string are an operating link. Thanks Claudio </p>
Sorry, but today the problem arise again: I haven't changed anything. Just to check the option I add the image of send options. Thanks Claudio
The option for html format is in the Composition & Addressing section of Account Settings for each account or identity (see picture). If the box is checked for 'Compose... in HTML..', the default is html, if it's unchecked the default is plain text. Holding Shift when starting a new message, replying or forwarding will change the composition format to the opposite of the default.
I confirm that my options are as you suggest. Here the image. Claudio
When you insert the URL in the Link window, add the complete address including http:// or https:// such as http://meet.google.com/haq-ahqt-bfr
Yes, adding "http://" it works, but yesterday it worked without "http://" Thanks. Claudio
Now I noticed that the same happen with email address: its appear in blue and right clicking shows the option "Copy link" but not "Open link" and left clicking anything happens. Thanks Claudio
