I restarted normally and got the error message again. went to tools/addons and disabled adblocker and all is good.

java isn't used by Thunderbird, so updating java would not help. TB does however use javascript.

Please start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Yes it did 2 addons where disabled.

It appears to have been an ad-on.... I was not aware that the add-ons for Firefox and TB were separate...... Thanks to all....
